. the president is cutting his vacation short to face the fiscal cliff. is he leaving hawaii for washington tonight. if lawmakers don't come up with a deal before the deadline your tax refund could be delayed by months. we are live in the washington bureau to explain more. >> reporter: brian the irs said without a deal as many as 100 million taxpayers may be forced to wait until march to file their tax returns. congress has to vote on the wealth tax and it needs to be adjusted for inflation. both partisay they would agree to it but it's all tied up in the fiscal cliff mess. tax filing season starts next week but the irs would put a hold on that for some. officials would wait for a deal in the new year instead of doing serious reprogramming to their tax system. filing would then be pushed back to march for millions. with refunds coming much later than usual. especially for those who plan on paying off credit card bills that often pile up after the holidays. now all of this could be avoided a deal before the deadline monday night but some long time lawmakers fear it won't happen, more on that

. the white house says the president will leave hawaii tonight on a red-eye to washington. lawmakers have less than a week to come up to agreement on how to avoid tax increases and spending cuts set to go into effect january. the first lady and the couple's two daughters will remain in hawaii for another 10 days. >>> for the first time starbucks' employees are being asked to write other than names on cups. the chain is asking employees in washington, d.c. to scribble the words "come together." as a message to lawmakers to settle the fiscal cliff. >> some spots blue skies, some parts grey clouds. >> interesting the colors you will see out there rainbow colors out there and we've had some in the south baylor, i'll show you one from mountain view, san jose we just had moderate rain roll through downtown, darker clouds off to the west there and that's what is going to head up into the santa cruz mountains shortly. one other advantage point, at least this side of san francisco, we are on the embarcadero side at front and vallejo streets where it looks quiet. if you look back the other way, rain com

is cutting his hawaiian vacation short to get back to fiscal cliff talks in washington. the country is a week away from the tax increases and deep spending cuts that will be triggered without an agreement. the next move will likely fall on democratic senate leader harry reid who is crafting a package on his own. it would extend the bush era tax cuts for households making less than $250,000 a year including the short-term spending cuts. >>> and it is a scary statistic for the recent college graduates. the number of young californians with the degrees working in restaurants or the retail, they have nearly doubled over the last five years. cbs 5 reporter tells us that these are the same people who have expensive college loans to pay off. >> reporter: when you're shopping this holiday season, or eating out, take a look around. you might notice a lot more people under 30 working those jobs. according to the census bureau, there are about 260,000 young adults with college degrees in california, taking work and food service in retail because they can't get anything else. >> it's pretty sad now, yeah
